$6,500 – MC-306 / DOT-406 Dome Leak Simulator
This unique training kit was developed to assist firefighters and other emergency response personnel understand the proper application of dome clamps and other specialized equipment utilized at Cargo Tank Emergencies. When utilized properly this training unit will assist responders in understanding the relief devices commonly associated with MC-306 & DOT-406 Cargo Tanks, and proper application of dome clamping devices.
The MC-306/DOT-406 Dome Leak Simulator is shipped in its own aluminum storage box. Simply loosen the security screw and proceed with assembly. Once training is completed the unit can be disassembled, secured and stored until the unit is needed again!
The base unit and all parts are constructed of Aluminum & Zinc plated parts. All parts can be easily disassembled and placed inside the unit for transportation and shipping. The unit is stable when completely assembled as shown. If the instructor only assembles one side of the unit for exercises, the base should be filled with water to insure stability. A drain and plug is provided with all base units. It is designed to accommodate 4 activities of which any two can be conducted simultaneously:
1.) MC-306 Dome Lid: The unit can be pressurized to 6 lbs. through a regulator and the vents will open allowing a responder to practice clamping the lid. The 306 and 406 dome lids come with a 3 lb. relief device (vent) and the strong back and lid assembly that serves as the 5 lb. vent. Our primary concern with clamping the lid is the 5 lb. vent or dome lid. Under normal circumstances the 3 lb. vent or dome lid may deteriorate with exposure, time and poor maintenance and represents the largest source of a leak following a rollover. Under a current flow of 3 lbs. of pressure the 3 lb vent is going to open, therefore an insert will be supplied to block of the smaller vent for exercises. This should be explained while training.
2.) DOT-406 Dome Lid: 406 Dome lids come in a number of different configurations. The first one is an assembly that looks very much like a 306 with a strong back and center man way. This would be handled just like a 306. The other version is an off-set dome with swing latch and wing nut. This version that will come with the unit to add diversity to the model. In order to clamp this unit it is necessary to put a block of wood between the clamp and the vent in order to apply even pressure and prevent the clamp from punching through the thin aluminum vent assembly.
3.) Clean Out Cap (Stainless Steel) Assembly: On the opposite side of the 406 a 3” Collar and Cap is provided to permit the use and practice of the Betts – Emergency Product Removal Valve. We contructed this part of the unit out of Stainless Steel to insure that it would maintain its integrity, unlike aluminum fittings which can be easily damaged.
4.) Drilling Pad: The base unit has a removable aluminum plate that represents the thickness of a gasoline cargo tank and is designed to allow responders to practice drilling. Each base unit will come with 2 practice plates.
